Stop These 21 Thieves of Success

By Roberta Budvietas, Business Mentor

Thief

Suggestion to stop the thief

Your self talk

Watch what you say about yourself

SNIOPEs (Subject to the negative influence of others)

Let no one else, especially family and friends define or limit you

Time thieves

Stay in control of your time. Set a time to handle the phone, emails, visitors

Doubt

Remember that hindsight is almost perfect but doing nothing means you achieve nothing so give it a go

Priorities

Identify what is URGENT and what is important and keep your goals  in mind when setting priorities

Money Attitude

Develop an attitude to money that establishes your self-worth and stay aware of your attitude about worth, value and money

Breaking your word

When you break your word with others, you first break your word with yourself so only give your word (promise) when you intend to keep it.

Doing things partway

Finish what you start and finish it to the best of your ability. You can revisit and amend later but do your best first time

Assuming you know what the other person is thinking

Restrict the number of assumptions you make about any situation to 0. That way you always get clarity about what they are thinking (HARD)

Forgetting that others are self-centered

Remember that everyone ‘s world revolves around themselves and they seldom really think or care about what you want or need so be clear in how you help others and what you want in return

Misunderstanding what tribes are all about

Gangs, tribes , family and friends all come with obligations. Understanding the rules and expectations of the tribe, helps you achieve more.

Misunderstanding the money cycle

Unless you understand the basics of money, economics, debt and finance, your attitude to money will be limited

Giving too much because of self-worth perception

Giving is good, especially at the start of a relationship but you need to allow the other side to give back too. That way you get a win-win

Coping when things go wrong

Remember that things go wrong. Develop techniques that reduce your panic and stress when they do.

Mismanaging the little things

Do things simply and once only. Saves later on time and allocation. Develop simple systems for common daily activities to reduce stress and problems

The Do-it-all yourself syndrome

Yes you can do it all yourself but sometimes it is better to get help. Remember that your children and partners learn to help and share your excitement and that builds better people when you get them to help out

Forgetting the big picture and getting caught up in the details

Remember that while the details are important, many details are time wasters rather than time savers because they fail to help you achieve your goal

No Preparation

Always take time to find out what you need to know and do before doing something. It will save time and reduce stress and costs.

No Plan

A simple plan that says do this and this and this to achieve that helps keep your on track for achieving your objectives

No Action to achieve performance

Unless you get up off the couch and do something nothing happens so prepared and plan but then do the work

Afraid to learn

Develop a habit of learning something new every day and work to improve your mind and body daily.

About Author Rick Polson

 Rick Polson

Communications is an art that I have taken to heart since high school. After helping to set up and participate in an on-campus radio station, I went on to study broadcast communications, receiving a Bachelor’s degree from Curry College. Since then, I have held a wide range of positions in the fields of Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations.

I was an Account Executive at several broadcast facilities in Ann Arbor, Michigan; Boston, Massachusetts; and Tampa Bay, Florida – selling, writing, and producing ads for numerous industries. I also was an on-air participant in some locations. As a Public Relations Manager for an international computer product manufacturer and distributor, I was deeply involved in branding global product lines. I also have advertising agency experience, involved with all aspects of client relations and placement of marketing programs.

Throughout my career, I have held high expectations for my staff and myself. It is important that everyone is properly trained in their focuses, whether sales, customer service, advertising or marketing. Communication is also important to encourage a continual flow of information to build confidence in the company and staff.

I mastered several computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), Sales Tools (ACT, Goldmine), and social media applications (Facebook, Twitter).

So, you just started a business

This compelling new book by Rick Polson – ”Making a Superstar Company” – gives new business owners a way to understand the different types of marketing and advertising vehicles available to them. It is written in a style where “you’re sharing a cup of coffee or meal” with the author while he tells you how these things work. There are many historic references and examples to give the reader an understanding of newspaper, radio, cable/TV and the Internet just to name a few.

As the author says, ”Most small business owners are experts in retail, restaurants, service companies like air conditioning or plumbing, but most have no real grasp on how to gain a customer base and build a business. That’s why I wrote the book. To help them grow and be successful.”

He goes on to tell us that there are plenty of examples in each chapter that the reader can put into place immediately and grow their business successfully. If read a chapter or two at a time, the new business owner can build their organization in steps and be successful. It is also a benefit for business owners of any current business as a review of new ideas.

The book is available at many eBook channels like Amazon, BarnesandNoble.com, ebookstore.sony.com, Smashwords.com and many more. You can also contact Rick at bigrickbook@yahoo.com. It will be a paperback in the spring.

Today on Proceed and Succeed – Why You Must Innovate in Your Business

One of the biggest mistakes business owners of all types make is to believe that their business model is perfect. Businesses have to continually innovate to remain successful.

There are big public examples…BlackBerry, for instance. They had their market locked up. Their core customers like physical keyboards. Well, Apple showed the world that a touch screen smartphone would sell. Google followed with Android. Blackberry remained stagnant. Their fall from grace is the stuff of legends.

In our businesses, we need to guard against this so we don’t become like BlackBerry.

This week, I will be broadcasting live from the Garden Vista Ballroom in Passaic, NJ.  Why there?  Well, the owner, Jim Robbins, has taken a building that was vacant for about 30 years, and transformed the Ballroom into the most beautiful location for weddings, Sweet 16′s and parties of all types.

This Ballroom was the center of Passaic social life in the 1920′s and 30′s.  Jim has brought it back to it’s past glory, but in a most 21st century way.

On Tuesday, he is having an exhibit in the ballroom featuring examples of how you can a have a modern wedding, with a blend of something old and something new.  Vendors will be there with cutting edge technology and new ideas to show it all off.  In fact, a New York City type wedding will be re-created right there in the Ballroom.

Jim and the Garden Vista Ballroom is a shining example of never standing still, always innovating and aggressive promotion. This is how you grow in this challenging economy, and Jim will share what he has done with us.

You will not want to miss this Show!
