UEC’s main focus is the support of Veterans and active soldiers from all branches.

UEC Supports L10 Freedom Ride 2010 in Ft. Leavenworth in Kansas
Their mission is to wholly support and work toward the release of The Leavenworth 10, a group of soldiers/Marines incarcerated at Ft. Leavenworth for killing members of Al-Qaeda or Iraqi insurgents. These decorated and committed soldiers/Marines who honorably served their country—achieving a significant number of combat medals over multiple deployments—are now serving sentences ranging between 10 and 40 years. They and their families have fallen victim to the untenable Rules of Engagement, demoralizing “Catch and Release” policies, and climate of political correctness that govern our troops’ actions while trying to survive a combat zone. For more information please visit their website at www.l10freedomride.com

Michael Behenna
First Lieutenant Michael Behenna is a young Army Ranger who is currently serving a 20 year sentence at Fort Leavenworth for “unpremeditated murder” of a known member of Al Qaeda. 1st Lieutenant Michael Behenna was an excellent officer. He received his call to serve his country while attending the University of Central Oklahoma. He is from a family of public servants, his mother being an Assistant United States Attorney and his father a retired Special Agent with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. He has served the Army and the United States with honor and dignity. To sacrifice the life of this Oklahoma soldier over the death of a known terrorist, is a breech of faith with all who are serving our country.
We urgently need your help to correct this terrible wrong against a loyal and faithful soldier. Please contact your congressman and ask them to intervene on behalf of 1LT Behenna. For more information please visit www.defendmichael.com

Alcohol dependence and alcohol abuse cost the United States an estimated $220 billion in 2005.  This dollar amount was more that the cost associated with cancer ($196 billion) and obesity ($133 billion).

The following behaviors may signal a drinking or other problem at home:

Failure in school; truancy
Lack of friends; withdrawal from classmates
Delinquent behavior, such as stealing or violence
Frequent physical complaints, such as headaches or stomachaches
Abuse of drugs or alcohol
Aggression towards other children
Risk taking behaviors
Depression or suicidal thoughts or behavior
Many issues that COA face:

    • Facing reality
    • Completing tasks
    • Achieving honesty
    • Having a positive self image and self-esteem
    • Learning to have fun
    • Developing healthy relationships
During Horses Healing Hearts Open Hours participants will:
    • Learn to safely groom, tack and untack a horse.
    • Learn basic riding skills.
    • Learn about the different styles of riding; Jumping, Dressage, Polo, Western, through reading and demonstrations given by local experts volunteering their time.
    • Learn to set goals and objectively evaluate their progress along the way.

    Activities:
The child’s time will be spent in the following ways  during their 2-3 hour stay at the ranch.

“Horse time” (half of “time” spent during visit)

    • Child will groom, tack, and ride. Then untack, clean, and put away the horse assigned to them for the day.

Reflection and Catch up (approximately 20-30 minutes  or ¼ of their time at ranch that day)

    • During this time the participant can talk about anything they want to discuss regarding how they are doing outside of the ranch (school, home, other sports, etc), or something they learned at ranch that day.

Planning and Goals:  (Approximately 20-30 minutes  or ¼ of their time at ranch that day)

      • The last part of the child’s time is spent either journaling or creating goals for the week and month.  Goals can be related to advancing with horses or with activities outside the ranch.

      Why Horses? / Success Stories
Horses have small brains but relatively large limbic systems, the part of the brain that is involved with emotion. This is said to be one of the reason why they are empathetic with humans, when treated the right way.

There is something about a horse that gives it an ability to communicate with us.  They read people very easily.  They know when we are happy or sad, and most importantly horses don’t lie.  They set boundaries and have well-defined roles within herds.  Horses are particularly useful in therapy with children of alcoholics and addicts because their simple presence and energy can break down walls that the child themselves may not be aware are present.

In an era when immediate gratification and the easy way are the norm, horses require people to be engaged in physical, emotional and mental work – a valuable characteristic in all aspects of life.

Horses Healing Hearts' goal is to locate a 6-12 stall facility in Wellington, Lake Worth, Boynton Beach or Boca Raton with easy access for participants and sufficient riding arena and paddocks.
If you have an equestrian property on the market that has not been successful selling, we ask that you consider the following benefits of donating the use of your facility for 12 to 24 months:

    • Any interest on the mortgage can be written off as a donation to a 501c3* (*our organization is awaiting status granting from the IRS)
    • Our organization will pay the associated costs for upkeep of the property (landscaping, grass cutting, utilities, ring upkeep, barn maintenance, fence maintenance, etc.)
    • Our group’s presence and activities will bring exposure to your property.  We will be holding several events for funding and volunteer efforts on site during peak and off-peak season.   (One of our volunteers had a client with a $10 million dollar home that had been on the market for 3 years with no interest.  They had the Jaycees host a fundraising dinner and one of the dinner guests bought the home two weeks after the dinner!)
    • Any equestrian property shows better with horses and activity on site and property up-kept.
    • And most importantly, the lives you will change and positively affect by your generous donation!
