Often symptoms don’t appear until later stages of the disease when 5-year survival can be as low as 4%. A shocking 85% of lung cancer are diagnosed in late stage. When my mother was diagnosed with late stage lung cancer, I was shocked; she had very few symptoms. Lung cancer is treatable if found early–evidence my friend Shirley who recently had part of her lung removed, and was up and around within weeks of the surgery.
