Motivating your team takes different skills and understanding what makes your team tick. Knowing your team is critical to motivation. By better understanding the team you can move the team in a new and certain direction. But, this doesn’t happen by accident! It begins with a plan of where you want to go, followed by a direct, concerted message to all members of the team with consistent follow through. By communicating, I mean literally an internal marketing campaign to insure the team knows what direction you want to go. Further, by providing multiple messages, you are allowing the team to see the information in different avenues and in a different light, helping them better comprehend all parts of the change and direction.
It is important to understand, however, that motivation comes from within. It is not something that you can push on people. You can only create an environment where motivation can become common place. If you try to force it, it will not happen. If you set up situations where motivation (or momentum) is present, then you can create internal motivation. For more on this with respect to motivating your team, click on bit.ly/2aa5Gj.
