Joanne DiMaggio, MA, CHt, is a graduate of the University of Illinois and a freelance writer with a background in marketing and public relations. She worked in the Chicago media market for many years until moving to Charlottesville in 1995. During her long career, she has had hundreds of articles published in newspapers and magazines.
Joanne has been actively involved with Edgar Cayce’s Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) since 1987. In 1990, she became one of the founding members of the A.R.E. Heartland Region, headquartered in Chicago. She has been Coordinator for the A.R.E. Charlottesville, Virginia area since August 2008.
Joanne earned her Masters in Transpersonal Studies degree and her Spiritual Mentor certification through Atlantic University in Virginia Beach, Virginia in May 2010. Her culminating project (thesis) was on inspirational writing and served as the basis of her book, Soul Writing: Conversing With Your Higher Self. She formed the first Atlantic University Alumni Association for which she served as president for over two years. In April 2011 she was honored at the 2011 Distance Education Training Council’s annual conference as Atlantic University’s Outstanding Graduate of the year.
An inspired teacher and speaker, Joanne has given several talks on the subject of inspirational writing at A.R.E. headquarters in Virginia Beach, and to A.R.E. groups in the Chicago area; in Bethesda, MD and throughout Virginia (Charlottesville; Richmond; Waynesboro; Alexandria; and Stephens City). She also spoke at The Rhine Institute at Duke University in Durham, NC, and presented at the International Association for Near Death Studies annual conference in Washington, D.C. in August 2013. Joanne mentors month-long eGroups on soul writing through A.R.E. and Atlantic University. She has been a guest on numerous radio programs and the subject of several magazine articles. She was one of the authors featured at the 2012 Virginia Festival of the Book.
Using inspirational writing, Joanne produced a small line of greeting cards called Spirit Song. The International Greeting Card Association cited one of those cards, What is Human is Immortal, for its creative excellence, choosing it as one of six worldwide finalists in the “Sympathy” category for its Annual LOUIE Awards.
Joanne has been professionally pursuing past-life research and therapy for over 25 years. In October 1991 she founded PLEXUS (Past Life Exploration, Understanding and Sharing) in Naperville, IL and brought that organization to Charlottesville under the name Athanasy in 1995. During that time she also acted as Study Group Chairman for the Association for Past-Life Research and Therapies, now known as the International Association for Regression Research and Therapies, and continues her membership in that organization today. She is also a member of the National Association for Transpersonal Hypnotherapists.
She is a graduate of the Eastern Institute of Hypnotherapy as a Certified Hypnotherapist. Joanne completed additional training in hypnosis at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL and studied under Dr. Irene Hickman, a pioneer in the field of non-directive hypnotherapy. The years she spent as the head of her own past life research center enabled her to interact with some of the leading past life therapists, authors and other renowned practitioners from across the country.
In April 2013, Joanne founded The Unity Holistic Healing Center, a service of Unity of Charlottesville, where she serves as Director. She maintains an office there where she conducts private past life regression sessions and workshops on past-life and soul-writing related courses.
Her first book, “Charlottesville: A Contemporary Portrait” was published in March 2002. In August 2011 her second book, Soul Writing: Conversing With Your Higher Self, was published. The sequel to that book, Your Soul Remembers: Accessing Your Past Lives Through Soul Writing, was published by Rainbow Ridge Press in September 2013 and explores how to use soul writing to acquire past life information.
