Sylvia Allen is Founder and President of Allen Consulting, an internationally recognized marketing firm located in Holmdel, NJ. One of New Jersey’s leading PR agencies, Allen Consulting has been providing media relations services to both for-profit and non-profit organizations for over 30 years. Some of Sylvia’s clients have included the PNC Bank Arts Center, the San Gennaro Festival in New York, and the Iditarod in Alaska. Her firm has produced more than 100 events and raised more than $1 million worth of sponsorships for clients last year.
Sylvia Allen is more than just a successful business owner. She has been an Adjunct Associate Professor of Marketing and Program Advisor for New York University for over 20 years. She is an also an internationally recognized author, having written “A Women’s Guide to Sales Success” and co-written “How to Be Successful in Sponsorship Sales,” as well as numerous articles on sponsorship sales and marketing.
In 2003, Sylvia developed Sylvia’s Children, a 501(c)3 dedicated to helping feed, clothe and educate children in Uganda. Ms. Allen started the charity after visiting the Mbiriizi Primary School in Mbiriizi, Uganda, while on a humanitarian mission. The children at the school “adopted” Allen as their grandmother, a great honor in their culture. Allen returned to the United States determined to help improve the lives of the children, many of whom were orphaned by the AIDS pandemic. Since that time, Sylvia’s Children has raised close to a million dollars, all of which has gone directly to helping feed, clothe and educate the children at the school. It is Ms. Allen’s goal to help the school become self sufficient, and to use them as a model to help other schools in sub-Saharan Africa.
In 2011, Sylvia purchased the old Aitkin Opera House in Aitkin, Minnesota, which she is restoring to its original grandeur as The Butler Building, with restaurants, shops and more.
Sylvia is recognized by her peers and the industry for her outstanding leadership, and has received over 50 awards for her efforts. Some of her recent honors include the New Jersey State Governor’s Jefferson Award for Ambassador, Garden State Women Owned Business of the Year award, Top 50 Women in Business in NJ award, ATHENA Award and the Girl Scouts Woman of Distinction Award.
