1. Short Bio
I was born Inglewood, California in 1960 and raised by a single mother in a working class neighborhood in Hawthorne, California. As a matter of fact, I grew up on the same street as the Beach Boys. I attended Catholic grade school and public High School. After graduation, I joined the United States Air Force. Five months later, I was discharged for my “unsuitability to military life.” I graduated from Long Beach State in 1983 with a degree in Radio, TV, and Film. For two years, I performed as a stand-up comedy and hosted cable television programming while working a myriad “day jobs.” Frustrated with show business, I took a temporary legit job as an emergency contracted teacher with the LA Unified School District. Three years I moved to Arizona where I continued teaching secondary English. In 1995 I was hired to host write, produce, and host educational television programming for Educational Management Group. Three years later the company went under and I returned to teaching. I did continue to do contract writing for educational programming. In 2008 I began to write mostly true, mostly biographical, sometimes humorous stories. I published The Eight-Fingered Criminal’s Son in 2011 and The Spirit Guide Bar this year. I retired from teaching in June to continue writing. The one year legit gig turned out to be a 25 year career. TEECHUR: Confessions of a Reluctant Educator will release in 2014.
