The Nexus And Fan Base

Hey! This is Danny Ryde again. Ok, on the last show of Fan Base we had Justin, the manager of operations for the Nexus, a gaming center in Boynton Beach. First for those of you who are unfamiliar with the Nexus allow me to explain.

The Nexus as stated before is a gaming center located at the Boynton Beach Mall right across from the movie theater. In the Nexus, they have a nice selection of video games such as Guilty Gear, Blaze Blue, DDR, SNK VS Capcom 2, Need For Speed and Time Crisis 4, and their newest game, Which is an arcade version of Guitar Hero.

Now, apart from having an arcade in the front of the Nexus, the back is set up for LAN parties and computer gaming. In the back are about 40 computers ready for you  to play either online or in a local party. They have it setup for a wide variety of games such as Bioshock ,Call of Duty 4 – Modern Combat, Call of Duty: World at War, City of Heroes, City of Villains, F.E.A.R, Fallout 3, Final Fantasy Online, Gears of War, and many others. They also sell plenty of energy drinks including BAWLS the official energy drink of all LAN parties. This way you’ll be able to play all through the day and into the night.

Finally, they have a Lock-In once a month. A Lock-In at the Nexus is where there is non stop gaming on all arcade and computer games from 10pm Friday night to 10am Saturday morning. There are also plenty of drinks, pizza and subs. The Nexus uses a  power card system. That’s where you pay a certain amount of money for a certain amount of time. The Nexus always has reasonable prices for playing time. If you are a gamer of any kind you should definitely check out the Nexus.   Our guest host on this past Thursday show was Justin from the Nexus. He told us about what the Nexus is and what goes on at their Lock In’s. What really surprised me is that Justin is a former professional Starcraft player, and that sometimes during these Lock-Ins players will challenge him to Starcraft for prizes. These prizes could be a new TV or a brand new Gaming computer. So far I haven’t heard of him losing even when he played against one gamer were he had to have one eye closed, stand on one leg and he could only use the mouse to play. Justin was a great guest to have on the show, He was a lot of fun and we look forward to having him back on in the future.

Unfortunately, Justin couldn’t stay for the whole show because he had to get back to work. On the show  we played an interview that Big B and I did with two DC comic artists, Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti who were promoting their new comic book Power Girl. Then we had WTF news. Our stories included Lucky Star engine oil, two Florida tourists who tried to rape a porcupine (OUCH), legendary anime Director Hayao Miyazaki will be visiting Berkley University in California to receive the Berkley Japan Prize for Lifetime Achievement Award. Also Chris Hemsworth (Captain Kirk’s father in the new Star Trek movie) is going to play Marvel comic hero Thor in the planned Avengers movie in 2012. We also premiered a new segment on  the show called the Arcade Block. That segment of our show is where we play three or four songs that are either from video games or relate to video games in someway. This week we played songs from Guilty Gear, Initial D and DDR. Then we had video game reviews, Krysta reviewed Trauma Center 2 for the Nintendo DS. I reviewed Wanted: Weapons of Fate. Big B reviewed a Tsukihime fighting game and then debated the game with Evil Jeff. After that we gave out cheat codes for the new WII game Punch Out. Then we had  anime and Movie and game release dated for the end of May. Finally we ended the show with the newest song from Linken Park: New Divide from the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen movie. It was a great show and afterwards we all went to see Terminator: Salvation. We will give a review of that on our next show. After the movie we went to the Nexus, played Left 4 Dead for an hour. We then called in a night. So it wasn’t just a great show all in all it was a greatd day.

I’m not going  to give you a preview of the next show. That would take way from the randomness that we revolve around. So tune in next week to Fan Base on w4cy.com at 4pm next Thursday. Remember if you want to get in contact with us for any reason, fan mail, hate mail, song request or discussion topics, any reason at all email us at fanbase@w4cy.com. That’s it! All I will say now is “See you next Thursday at 4pm”. This is Danny Ryde saying Sayonara.
